Wolfman luggage

Stuff it

Motostrano is one of the few companies in the nation to actually stock Wolfman luggage. How do we know this? You might think we have a team of spies that go from shop to shop and travel around the country taking logs of the various products our competition sells and then this team sends in reports. Very Spy vs Spy. But no. We know this because from where I sit I'm always hearing customers in our store say "oh, you actually stock Wolfman luggage? Cool!" or "see, these guys sell Wolfman, which is a cool dual-sport brand of luggage. They are the only guys I know that stock them."

Wolfman luggage is a small manufacturer of a wide range of motorcycle soft luggage built with the dual-sport and world trekker in mind. Their luggage reminds me a lot of kayaking luggage with a liberal use of waterproof plastic and rubber. They've designed their bags to hold giant amounts of gear that gets strapped to large multi-purpose motorcycles as they go long distance to far away lands. It's rugged and designed for objects of all sizes. It's made to take some damage in a crash and some bags are made to withstand water submersion - for when the native canoe you've tied your BMW 1200GS using substandard jungle vine cracks in two, causing you and your bike to slip into snake infested river water.
You'll find the complete Wolfman catalog at Motostrano.com here.

Ziggy Marley Road Trip 2010

“It’s a historic moment for Africa. We’re gonna take a road trip through it.”

These are the words of Ziggy Marley, eldest son of reggae superstar Bob Marley and heir to one of the most legendary families in music, on the historic motorcycle trip he took to Africa with his brothers, Rohan and Robbie, during World Cup 2010: the first-ever World Cup to be held in Africa.

REV'IT! tested to the limit
Camping under the stars and staying with local families kept the team close to Africa’s people, land, and wildlife, and their REV’IT! GORE-TEX® Defender GTX jackets and trousers kept the Marley brothers well equipped for all the twists and turns of their trip. Capturing all of the action was award-winning producer/director David Alexanian and his production crew from Elixir Films, for a series called Marley Africa Road Trip. Alexanian is known for filming Ewan McGregor’s unforgettable motorcycle trips across the world, in the series Long Way Round and Long Way Down, and he has created a wonderful record of the Marleys’ trip and its meaning to them, in part through personal interviews and tour diaries.

Yoshimura for your BMW S1000RR

Yoshimura and BMW are two brands you may not always think of as making the perfect cocktail to drown out your earthly sorrows, but think again and throw a little sushi into your sourkraut- you never know, it just might taste great.

Yoshimura did their homework and came up with some interesting parts for the BMW S1000R. And why not? No one else is making them.

Once we buy the perfect bike (you know, the one about which we tell our wives: "Honey, this is the perfect bike, the last one I'll every buy and it's got everything on it, doesn't need a thing, not like all those other bikes I had that needed all those aftermarket parts I had to buy.") besides actually riding it, you're going to have to spend a lot of time in the garage just looking at it and stuff.

Now, if you own a BMW S1000R, you can turn those idle hours gazing at your bike into productive time spent improving on perfection.

Yoshimura has both a slip-on exhaust for the S1000R and a number useful aluminum parts that bolt on easily.

Felt HOT Wheels Sixty-8 Cruiser

One hot, I mean, cool bike

Felt makes some pretty cool cruisers. Some may even think they're rad. Perhaps the "king of cool", Felt's "HOT Wheels Sixty-8 Cruiser" model is the epitome of a custom cruiser bicycle in a low-rider style, made awsomely. Known for their use of huge fat tires, the Hot Wheels model is no exception, with the big fat Felt "Thick Brick" white-wall tires front and back. While not quite as huge as the massive 3 inchers on the El Guapo, the Hot Wheels holds it own with a custom paint job, fabricator style framing, disc brakes front and rear and low straight like handle bars. .

I like to picture myself riding this bike on a hot and sunny day, in rush hour traffic, on one of my busier downtown boulevards. I'm wearing a big flat bill cap, big black sunglasses, big tats down my arms, giant comb sticking out the back of my jeans and I have this giant ice cream cone in one hand. Then I slide up to this red light where two dudes on Harleys are sweltering in their leathers and I just look over at them and nod.
The Hot Wheels features a "Rust-Free Aluminum Monocoque Tank Frame" and stuff. And it comes with the "hotwheels' decorative black custom license plates too. It also features an MX-style side stand that fits into the axle. Yea, it's that cool. Way too cool for a regular kick stand.
This bike is a 3-speed with a compact cassette hub w/14mm Axle. No sprockets. Just smooth gearing using the shifter located on the down tube. Like we said. It's cool.

Supermoto Wheels For BMW G450X

Motostrano now has supermoto wheels available for the BMW G450X.
Available in either silver or black hubs, with black rims.
Excel rims on Talon hubs.

Tooting our own horn

For 8 years, Motostrano has subscribed to a review service that allows our customers to openly and honestly rate their experience with our company. Unlike other companies, we have no control of the reviews there and can't edit bad ones or good onces, as the whole thing is run independently by Yahoo. We review these reviews constantly to gauge how we are doing. Most customers don't review us at all. Fortunately , most reviews are positive and we've maintained a 98% or 99% positive feedback status for the past 8 years. We've had our fair share of negative reviews too, and to be perfectly honestly with, the really bad reviews are usually about things like men's underwear or similar products. So it's always nice to get a really nice review like this one today:

"Little story of how my trip snuck up and bit me in the ass and Motostrano helped a fella out.

I was going on a trip with some friends that we had been planning for ‘bout 3-months when a week before D-day I realize I needed an exhaust for my bike and hadn’t even ordered it yet. Research had been done and the exhaust was already removed, but I got busy before I tracked down a decent price.

I thought I was going to have to pay full retail price locally in order to get it with enough time to install it and we all know that just plain sucks. I talked to my local guy who was almost as helpful as a bagful-of-assholes. So back to the interweb I went surfing, floating and slowly drowning then I stumbled on to Motostrano.com. Not only did the “About Us” page say they cared about customers but the price was the best I had found. I figured what the hell I might as give well them try. Gonna make an assumption and say that we all hate doing things twice, but I figured if I needed to I could put the stock exhaust back on then tear it off and install the new one when I got back, whatever.

So, I ordered it on a Saturday w/ overnight shipping and sent an email asking them to “please notify me if there is any problem and it will not ship by Wednesday at the latest.” Went to work Monday with full expectations of calling them on my lunch, them saying that they would have to get back to me, then killing a couple more days playing phone tag only to have it ship out 2-days too late with no hope of using the overnight shipping charge I already paid for; or something to that effect. However, they actually called me (3-minutes after they opened Monday) and told me it was at another warehouse and would require special shipping to reach them in time to fit my timeline.

Long story shortened up just a bit, I ended up getting the whole kit with 2-days to spare because of their great service and fast shipping. Like my wife, you too may be thinking “two overnight shipping charges was a heavy price to pay for piss poor planning.” But little does she know I still came out $250 less than going with my local shop who wouldn't even guarantee that it would be here on time.

Anyway, sorry if this was long winded but I don’t normally do reviews and the fact that I made it on my trip without doing work twice and saved 250 bones in the process makes me giddy as a school girl. Bottom line: It was an awesome product at a kick-ass price with excellent customer service. Give ‘em a shot, I did and now I’ll always check them first."

2010 Supermoto USA NW Series Schedule

Its that time again, the start of race season where you look at your calendar
and say where the hell is the race schedule? The lack of a published schedule
is making every one ansty and rumors are flying around as to what is going on
within our community.

Let me give you the skinny on what is going on with the Supermoto USA NW series.
We have reestablished our relationship with the management of the Pacific GP facility.
PGP will continue to be our "home" track and is open for supermoto practice daily
(see pacificgp.com for exact details).

PGP is also establishing a local series to run exclusively at PGP, utilizing the SMUSA NW rule book and class structure.
In fact, our may 16th event will share points between the regional series and the pgp series.
SMUSA NW could not be happier to have this opportunity to share in the utilization of this top notch
facility and in the benefits of the consistency of a well established rulebook.

In additon to the local series, SMUSA NW will go back to its roots in covering the region. We will be offering
6 different facilties over the course of the year for your racing enjoyment. Everywhere from PGP, to
Evergreen Speedway with the monster trucks to Renegade Raceways in Yakima to our keynote event @ EK days in July.

Its not without trepidation that we undertake this endeavor (go to wikpedia.org to look up those words if you must).
We know that the economy sucks for everyone. We know there has been some infighting in the community
about certain facilities and certain personalities (myself included!).

We also know this this is a make or break season for our entire sport. There is no pro series
(or very limited) this year and groups all across the country are shrinking.
There are pockets of growth, we are hoping to rekindle this interest and the participation our area.

We are also aware that now you as a rider have choices, we are no longer the exclusive source of Supermoto
in the Washington area. Being a supermoto rider in Washington no longer means you have to be a racer,
with the construction of the excellent facility at PGP, many are making to choice to be track day riders
and forgo racing all together, or only choosing to race events that are within x miles of their homes.

We are well aware that all the possibilities could lead to a dilution of the racer pool, to the point
that no series could be successful. We at SMUSA NW, WHR Motorsports and Pacific GP are fighting hard to
prevent this. We want to ensure our sports survival locally by whatever means we can.
Its your job as a racer to show up and (and bring friends to spectate or try it out) support the races
that you can, so you will have the opportunity to race again next year.

So, enough with the doom and gloom, lets get to the fun part. Racing.
Here is where and when you can.
2010 Supermoto USA NW Series:
Round 1 - Sunday, April 18th Ephrata Raceways WHR Motorsports All Supermoto USA classes

Supermoto Nation to grow Supermoto in America

Supermoto Nation officially launched as a new company committed to growing the motorcycle category of supermoto in America. In addition to announcing the company, Supermoto Nation's web site and Facebook page are now live. The web site and Facebook page will serve as a central point for people interested in getting started riding or racing supermoto.

The primary focus of Supermoto Nation will be to build an entertaining, innovative and successful professional supermoto series in America. In addition, the company will help leverage all the regional efforts and focus attention on the various groups and individuals committed to supporting and growing supermoto.

The name (Supermoto Nation) was selected to capture the potential of the sport of supermoto and to create excitement about this absolutely incredible motor sport. The name represents the future of supermoto and what is possible when people who are passionate about something take on building a supermoto nation.

"Originally this all started as an effort to figure out a way to salvage the Pro Supermoto Racing Series - no small undertaking in this economy. But as I continued to work on developing the series, I realized that it was going to take more than just a professional race series to properly promote supermoto in America. While some of the pieces exist today, there are a few elements that need to be added and everything has to be pulled together into a cohesive and compelling package. A package that builds the fan base, educates future customers about supermoto-style bikes and accessories, and encourages new participants to want to get involved in riding and racing supermoto," commented Ed Kuhlenkamp, founder and owner of Supermoto Nation.

Supermoto Nation is in the process of exploring the likelihood of being able to proceed with developing a true national race series in 2010 and determining what that series will look like. Preliminary discussions have taken place with local promoters and sponsors around the country. Supermoto Nation is confident that it is still possible to have a series this year with the right marketing partners. Companies interested in marketing opportunities associated with the series can contact Ed Kuhlenkamp, his information is available at supermotonation.org.

"The plan to rebuild the sport of supermoto is grounded in taking realistic steps and not overpromising what can be done in the near term. I think the hype about supermoto and promises of what could be achieved with the sport in the past are some of the things that hampered the growth of supermoto. Supermoto has all the qualities to be a highly successful motor sport. It is extremely exciting, fairly easy to locate events near major metropolitan areas and has always produced excellent ratings when televised."

"Even with all these qualities and more the sport lacks true infrastructure and strong support at the local level. None of that is going to happen overnight, but it will happen if someone is focused on it. Rebuilding supermoto will take a couple of years, but after the initial infrastructure is in place, sponsors and fans can expect steady growth in the category and a racing calendar they can count on," added Kuhlenkamp.

The new Supermoto Nation web site will focus primarily on the professional racers, and teams involved in the series. In addition, it will also serve as a destination site for people interested in learning more about how to get started riding or racing supermoto. Currently, the site has only limited information posted; more details will be added in the weeks to come.

About the track: Pure MX Park was formed in January of 2010 by former racer Doni Wanat. Doni has been on riding scene for sometime starting in the early 90’s racing Supercross & outdoors as a privateer. Most recently Doni has been the manager & rider on the Rockstar Hart & Huntington Supermoto team, where he finished in the top ten in points for the last 4 years. Now he is here in Texas, sharing his riding and mx industry experience, all while living the dream of owning a motocross training facility.

The track is 1 ½ miles long with 11 tabletops, whoop section, elevation changes and plenty of rough track for training. The terrain is sandy loam with a red clay base which has been very forgiving during this wet Texas winter. There are currently 8 RV water hookups (electrical coming soon), and a bike washing station. Jump faces are groomed daily. Palestine is under 15 minutes away with many hotels, restaurants, Walmart and Lowes. Lake Whitney is 90 minutes west of the track. Alpinestars Velocity Leather Jacket

For a great looking and feeling retro style jacket, we are recommending the Alpinestars Velocity Jacket. Orange if you ride a KTM or a Harley. White stripe for any other bike. Soft shiny leather and soft bio armor keep this jacket looking like the old moto jackets of yesteryear while maintaining the protection standards of today.

More 2010 Alpinestars

A few weeks ago my ten year old son and I flew down to Los Angeles to check out the new products that Alpinestars is releasing to the US market. As one of Alpinestars' big US dealers we get to preview new product releases before the rest of the world. Naw, we didn't make some goofy video about it, but we had a great time. Got dined, wined and indoctrinated by multiple members of the Alpinestars sales army and then my son and I bolted off to Disneyland to go ride the rides and get lost in the fantasy of it all.

I'll tell you this, if you haven't been to Disneyland lately, take the time to get down there. It's truly the happiest place on earth.

The 2010 offering from Alpinestars is extensive. Most of the items from 2009 are being carried over and today 48 more products were made available. There are some cool new jackets for men, a very nice jacket for the ladies, some new footwear, body armor and accessories to check out in this release and you'll find them available on our web site, which is right here.

I like the retro Velocity Jacket, as well as the Drift, two jackets that are part of the Alpinestars move from 1.4 to 1.1 thickness leather in their street/sport riding jackets. Alpinestars says that the new 1.1 leather they use is as strong as their 1.4 and more light weight. Ok, we'll go along what that.

If you are hip, you'll want to buy one of these. If you like to play in the mud, get this. If you're a girl and ride in the street, check this out. If you carry a lot junk with you, get this

Alpinestars is making almost 50 different types of motorcycle boots! No other company can make that claim! Check them out!

Alpinestars Partlor Boots - White Collar Motorcycle Boots

Due out this Spring, the new Alpinestars Parlor boots are designed for the rider who must have a boot he can use both on and off the bike, while also adhering to certain office-attire standards at work. It's a motorcycle riding boot that looks nothing like a motorcycle riding boot, yet it performs just like a motorcycle boot should.

Features: a water-resistant leather upper and lining, elastic panels and a side zipper. The Parlor offers a steel shank in the sole for reinforcement and an inner foam shift pad on the left shoe.

We motorcyclists must always be on the ready and this boot offers the kind of preparedness that today's high-powered businessmen, doctors, lawyers, managers and fashionistos require in a demanding world.

Picture, if you will, yourself in the middle of a sweaty palmed sales presentation in the conference room of your favorite low-rise office building. With your suit, tie and the Parlor boots, you convey the outward appearance of a dependable and respected member of the business community, projecting the image of your average and trustworthy 4-wheel freeway commuter, probably a BMW 5 series owner. With the help of these boots, you feel confident that whatever it is you are selling will be sold.

Yet, deep within, you know, as you deliver your closing pitch, your inner beast is thinking only of a celebratory post-meeting ride on your Ducati through your favorite twisty backroad and out to the coast for steamy beers and fresh oysters over a long lunch, with the hot blonde taking notes at the end of the table riding on your passenger seat.

That's the type of boot this is.

more agv helmet news

AGV has stepped it up again for 2010 with some new helmets that are out now and some that will be released over the next few months.

The AGV T2 is an evolution of the famed AGV Ti-Tech helmet and features an SSL (super-super light) Carbon-Kevlar shell that comes in 3 sizes. The helmet is available in sizes XS to XXXL. The T2 is light, every light. Lighter than the TiTech by a little and like the TiTech, the T2 falls into AGV's race helmet line-up, providing a snug fit that is ideal for racing and track days.

But the cool thing about this helmet is that AGV has released a line they call "legendary racers", with graphics to compliment well known racers including Giacomo Agostini, Barry Sheen and Angel Nieto. Look for more racer replicas to come out in the future.

And so far we know about two limited edition Valentino Rossi helmets that will be available this spring. They are the Rossi Donkey GP Techhelmet and the Mugello Rossi GP Tech . As we go to press, the Rossi helmets are on pre-order status and due to ship next month. Get your order in now to ensure delivery when these limited helmets ship.

Motorcyclists to the rescue in Haiti

In the midst of the devastation in Haiti, I've read numerous reports where motorcycles have been used effectively in the chaos that followed in the wake of the earthquake.

With roads clogged, debri blocking roadways, traffic congestion from other cars and people and mayhem everywhere, motorcycles are being used as the only effective mode of transportation where cars can't go. Motorcycles are being used to carry in supplies to demolished city centers and they are being used as transportation for city officials to survey the area as they try to bring things back together. With communication systems down, motorcycles are also being used to carry messages back and forth in the chaos.
